I take one inhale before setting off in the opposite direction of the monstrosity.
I sprint as fast as my human legs are capable.
The blood in my body pumps through my veins at an immense speed.
I need to stop.
My legs give out from under me, and I cry in pain.
While I assess the situation, I notice the beast is not following me.
I dust myself off and pear into the darkness near the horizon.
I think back and realize the thunderous footsteps did not continue after I took flight.
Why would it scare me so to only leave me behind?
I wonder about the creature as I continue onward, understanding less and less about my surroundings.
